The Strandwood Kindergarten Teachers would like to evaluate all incoming Kindergarten children’s phonemic awareness. (No assessment for TK (current or incoming).

Please bring your child to Strandwood (exact location TBD) on May 7, 2018.

Although it makes no difference to your child’s Early/Late placement, we suggest the following to ease the wait time:

Last names beginning A-H come at 8:30 – 10:00AM

Last names beginning I-M come at 10:00 – 11:30AM

Last names beginning N-S come at 12:30 – 2:00 PM

Last names beginning T-Z come at 2:00 – 3:00 PM

The test should take 7-12 minutes.

We can accommodate you throughout the day if you cannot come at the suggested times.

TK & KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION INFO

 Strandwood Elementary School

Your child must be 5 years of age on or before December 2, 2018 to be enrolled for the 2018-2019 school year.  Students born between 9/2/2013 and 12/2/2013 will enter TK.  Students born between 9/2/2012 and 9/1/2013 will enter Kindergarten.

Current TK students do not have to complete registration again.  Ms. Bilyk will send home a survey to be completed in the spring.

It's a 3 step process:

1.  Enroll online.  Parents can begin the enrollment process online anytime (https://air.mdusd.org/air/).  You must enroll with the address where the student lives at least 50% of the time.  Enrollment begins at your home school, even if you intend to apply for a transfer.  Transfer information available here (deadline for transfer application is March 9th).

2.  Pick up a supplemental packet.  Supplemental packets are available for pick up in the Strandwood office.  We will be open from 7:30am-3:30pm, on school days, for packet pick up.  No appointment is needed, just drop on by.

Included in the supplemental packet are documents that pertain to Strandwood, including a request for early or late friend assignment.  A lottery system will be used to select the student’s assignments.

3.  Complete registration.  TK and Kindergarten registration day will be held on Tuesday, February 6th at Strandwood in the B-1 classroom.  We offer a no-wait appointment through SignUpGenius (<- that is a clickable link) or you can drop in 9am-10:45am and 12pm – 3pm (wait times will vary).  Your student does not need to be present.

If you cannot attend registration day, appointments are available through the SignUpGenius link (same link as above).    Walk-in registrations after Registration Day (February 6th) will not be accepted.

While we have not had a waiting or overflow list in recent years, last year registration was extremely full.  This year, we will be numbering registrations in order received.  Those registering first, will get first priority for enrollment at Strandwood for the 2018-19 school year.  Any overflow students will be routed to other schools in the MDUSD district.

At your registration appointment, please bring the online  enrollment printout and the completed supplemental forms along with the following documents:

  1. Address verification documents – see form in supplemental packet
  2. Original birth certificate of student or passport
  3. Immunization record

**A child cannot attend school without complete and up-to-date immunizations**

All documents must be brought in at time of registration.  Incomplete registrations are not accepted- you will be asked to make another appointment at a later date.

All tours for the year have been complete.  If you are interested in touring/visiting Strandwood, we encourage you do so at our Open House on May 22 from 6:30-8pm.

Upcoming dates:

On May 7th, we will conduct a Kindergarten assessment for each student (no assessment for TK) at Strandwood.  More details to follow.

In late June/early July, you will receive your Early or Late Friend assignment via mail.

In August, you will receive a welcome letter from your student’s teacher and information regarding a visit to the classroom before the first day of school.

A parent created list of childcare options is available on the Strandwood Website under Parents and Community.

To recap and provide a quick breakdown of steps:
